Green Furlong Allotment Society

Plots, produce and community — grown together, one bed at a time.

How it started

Welcome to Green Furlong

A place to grow

Green Furlong is a community-run allotment site where local growers tend full, half and quarter plots. Whether you're after vegetables, fruit, flowers or just the peace of a day's digging, there's a plot with your name on it.

Run by the people here

We're governed by an elected committee and funded through plot rents. Everyone pitches in at communal working parties — hedging, path maintenance, shared tasks that keep the whole site thriving.

What you get

What Being a Plot Holder Means

It's more than a patch of earth — it's access to a whole growing community.

Your own plot

A full, half or quarter plot sized to suit your plans. Dig it, nurture it, grow what you love. Your boundaries, your rules.

Shared water & tools

Water points dotted around the site and a communal shed stocked with tools. No need to lug everything yourself — help is there when you need it.

Compost & know-how

A shared compost area keeps waste from the neighbourhood out of landfill. And plenty of fellow growers ready with tips, seeds and sometimes a surplus courgette or two.

A supportive network

From first-time plotters to committee veterans, there's someone who's been where you are now. Gardening questions, neighbour chat, or a shared brew — it's all here.

The yearly rhythm

What's On

Green Furlong follows the seasons. Here are the calendar landmarks everyone looks for.

Spring

Seed swaps

Swap saved seeds and chat about what's growing well this year. The best way to meet other growers and pick up varieties suited to our soil.

Summer

Open evenings

Walk around the site, chat to plot holders about their growing plans, ask questions. Newcomers always welcome.

September

The Annual Show

Competition, celebration and cake. Everyone enters something — vegetables, flowers, jams, bakes. The heart of our year.

Winter

Annual General Meeting

Elect the committee, review the year, plan ahead. Members only, but the door opens to everyone thinking of joining.

Members see the full calendar. Once you're a member, sign in to see working parties, committee notices and member-only events throughout the year.
